How eddy Works
Eddy is a bot. Their role is to help new engineering hires ramp up as quickly as possible, while feeling supported. The information eddy provides is governed by onboarding best practices and comes from these sources:
Team Setup: The manager tells eddy about certain aspects, and expectations of their team. The New Hire's manager describes their high-level expectations.
Onboarding Plan: A lead engineer or colleague answers technical questions and lists documentation.
New Hire Setup: The New Hire's manager describes their high-level expectations.
As an interactive bot that exists inside the primary communication tool of Slack, eddy is designed to be used every day. eddy has two interaction types - information and tasks. Throughout the workday, Eddy will offer helpful information and task the New Hire with research, workflows, and production tasks.
At the end of the shift, eddy will check in and ask the new hire if that day's tasks had been completed.
Integration with Team Resources
eddy is designed to be part of a team. When the New Hire hits a roadblock, eddy is able to connect them inside Slack to their assigned Buddy, their Manager, or a subject-matter expert.
You can ask eddy for updates on your New Hire's progress at any time during their onboarding. Use the report command to see their progress and the number of questions they skipped. Use the download command to get a full copy of their Onboarding Plan as a markdown file.
