Product Update: Templates

Learn more about Edify's most recent product update!

Today we’re expanding our Learning Path Template Library with two new Onboarding Path templates (and an update to our 30 Day Engineering template)!

Building a strong technical onboarding program shouldn’t require special skills or knowledge. Edify’s templates guide path constructors through the key areas of learning that are critical to successfully onboarding new hires.

Software engineering teams have a lot in common, but companies at different stages of growth and hiring have different needs, so we’ve partnered with Caro Griffin, founder of Opsy, and Charlotte Whitmore, Engineering Learning & Development Program Manager, to expand our template library providing more inspiration to build paths that increase productivity and collaboration, enabling engineering teams for success.

Corporate Department Team Onboarding Template

Caro Griffin is a senior operations leader who works with early-stage teams to help scale systems and teams. Many companies at this stage are focused on rapid hiring and onboarding programs are nascent. This is exactly the time that teams get out of sync and productivity grinds to a halt.

Known for her renowned corporate onboarding, Caro advised Edify as we partnered to build a Onboarding Learning Path template that provides new hires with a complete set of learning touchpoints: Corporate, Department, and Team.

If you’ve been following Edify for a while you’ve probably seen us refer to this as the layer cake:

  • The corporate onboarding top layer provides culture, history, and context for the new hire helping them to understand the product(s), customer, and evolution.
  • The middle layer of departmental onboarding helps new hires understand how the technical organization is organized and how their role and team fit into the larger network.
  • The bottom layer is team onboarding which provides the new hire with the the specific know-how to do their job and collaborate with their colleagues.

New College Grad Template

Charlotte Whitmore specializes in designing and building functional onboarding and continuing education programs for technical teams. Edify teamed up with Charlotte to build an Onboarding Learning Path for New College Grads.

We probably don’t have to tell you that software engineers and adjacent roles are in high demand right now: In 2020 there were over 53,000 new Computer Science graduates. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that the field of software engineering will grow 22% this decade. Savvy leaders know that hiring early career engineers is a smart bet, but new employees need different support when they are getting started in a new role.
